Tropical Storms and Temporary Migration in Vietnam

چکیده

In this paper, we provide the first household-level empirical multievent study of temporary internal migration as a consequence tropical storms. order to do, so combine three waves Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey with geo-referenced cyclone data from Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship. Based on resulting panel dataset, emigration patterns evolving in aftermath occurring storms sample communes. We find robust evidence favor significant push effect migration. Occurring increase likelihood that household sends members other regions Vietnam. Storms also tend number absent and absence time. Moreover, show both seasonal long-term absences.

Storms drive altitudinal migration in a tropical bird.

Although migration is a widespread and taxonomically diverse behaviour, the ecological factors shaping migratory behaviour are poorly understood. Like other montane taxa, many birds migrate along elevational gradients in the tropics. Forty years ago, Alexander Skutch postulated that severe storms could drive birds to migrate downhill. Here, we articulate a novel mechanism that could link storms...

Cirrus Canopies in Tropical Storms

An analysis is made of the generation, advection, and dissipation processes of the cirrus canopy in tropical storms with particular emphasis on the formation of sharp edges. Although subsidence and accompanying evaporation may be factors, this formation is closely tied with the wind flow pattern near the edges. The stronger the radial wind velocity in the vicinity of the edges, the greater is t...

Intensified Arabian Sea tropical storms

Tropical cyclones over the Arabian Sea in the pre-monsoon season (May–June) have intensified since 1997 (ref. 1, Fig. 1a) owing to significant reductions in storm-ambient vertical wind shear (VWS) in the troposphere; these reductions have decreased on average by about 3m s from the pre-1997 epoch (1979–1997) to the recent epoch (1998–2010). The authors attribute the reduction of premonsoon VWS ...

Titan’s Tropical Storms in an Evolving Atmosphere

The Huygens probe landed in a damp lake bed fed by fluvial channels, indicative of past rainfall. Such washes, interspersed with vast dunes, are typical of Titan’s tropical landscape. Yet, Cassini-Huygens measurements reveal a highly stable tropical atmosphere devoid of deep convective storms, and the formation of washes in dune fields is not understood. Here we examine the effects of seasonal ...

Temporary migration and economic assimilation

In this paper I study temporary migration and its consequences for immigrant behaviour. A distinction is made between temporary migration where the return time is exogenous and where the migrant chooses when to return. The consequences of both types of temporary migration for migrant behaviour (as opposed to a permanent migration) are illustrated. The specification of the empirical models will ...
